TAXILA: The Bassal police on Friday said the gang rape of a married woman in a wooded area was fabricated as it was engineered to grab money and for blackmailing.
On August 23, a woman from Okara currently residing in Tarnol area of Islamabad claimed that she was raped after a taxi driver along with his two friends lured her to the forest area on the pretext of arranging a job for her in a school. A case was later registered with Bassal police station against the suspects.
Subdivisional police officer Pindigheb circle DSP Asghar Guraya said that on the complaint of the victim police had registered a case against the nominated suspects andlaunched an investigation. He added that during investigation it transpired that there was no concrete evidence of the incident and medical examination also did not prove the allegation.
He said when the police grilled the victim, she said that she along with Qari Amir and Izat Khan subinspector of the local police engineered the case against Azhar and his two friends to settle scores and extort money.
Mr Guraya said that a case has been registered against the woman and others along with the sub-inspector. He said that a departmental inquiry had also been initiated against the police officer. Correspondent
