KARACHI: Bodies of three newborn babies were found at a garbage dump in North Nazimabad on Saturday, police said.
Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan SHO Qamar Kiani said that unidentified persons threw three jars containing the bodies of the newborn babies at the garbage dump in Block J.
He said that some medical instruments were also found from the scene. He believed that some people used the bodies for medical purposes in a medical college and instead of properly burying them they dumped the remained.
The area SHO said usually the bodies of newborn babies in the metropolis were found stuffed in a bag or wrapped in a bedspread.
He said that the bodies were sent to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The police were waiting for doctors` reports to initiate further legal proceedings, he added.
Recently, the police had issued directives to all police stations to initiate an inquest proceeding under section 174 of the criminal procedure code followed by a medical examination through the medico-legal officer concerned and registration of an FIR at the police station concerned to trace the culprits involved.
Previously, whenever such corpses were found the same were informally handed over to a welfare organisation for burial without fulfilling the requisite medico-legal formalities.
