SWAT: The police have claimed arresting the killer of a private hospital watchman.
Talking to reporters at the Swat Press Club here on Wednesday, district police officer Shafiullah Gandapur said Abdul Jalil had lodged a report with the Saidu Sharif police station that his father, Abdul Khaliq was murdered by an unknown person while performing duty as guard at a private school on Dec 31, 2022.
Mr Gandapur said regional police officer Sajjad Khan had also taken notice of the murder, and directed immediate arrest of the killer. He said a team led by him (DPO) was formed to trace the culprit, adding the team using scientific methods traced the killer, namely Imran, and recovered the iron rod he used in the murder.
“During investigation, the man confessed to killing the victim for honour,” the DPO said.
He also said the police had traced a group involved in mobile phone snatching, including a dealer selling stolen phones. He said a passerby woman was killed when Zeeshan Khan, a resident of Mingora, put up resistance to robbers, who snatched his mobile phone. He said the police successfully reached the culprits by tracing the IMEI number of the snatched phone with the help of an IT expert. He said the snatched mobile phones were also recovered from them.
Mr Gandapur said the group sold the snatched mobile phones to some traders in Mingora after changing their IMEIs. He said laptops, computers and other equipment were also seized from the group.
He said the Mingora police also recovered nine kilograms of marijuana from a truck, and arrested its driver, Mohammad Arif.
