TAXILA: Two schoolboys were killed and another was critically injured when a recklessly-driven passenger van hit their motorcycle while they were returning after appearing in their 9th class exam.
The incident occurred on Rawalpindi-Kohat Road in Fatehjang town of Attock on Friday.
Police and hospital sources while quoting eyewitnesses said Zain Akhter, 15, Mohammad Asim, 14, and Safiullah, 14, were returning home after the exam held at their school in Jaffar village.
They said Zain and Asim died on the spot while Safi was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Fatehjang from where he was referred to the Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi due to his critical condition.
A pall of gloom descended on the area over the tragic death of the two students. Moving scenes were observed when their bodies were taken for funeral. Police registered a case against the van driver and launched an investigation.
Meanwhile, a seminary student committed suicide by jumping into a pond in the remote village of Dhoke Atta in Mianwala area of Pindigheb.
Police said Mohammad Tabish, 15, left home on Friday morning for the seminary but but went to a nearby pond and committed suicide. His body was retrieved by local divers and shifted to a hospital.
