STRENGTHENING JUSTICE & PROTECTION FOR SGBV SURVIVORS

AGHS is actively working to improve the effectiveness and implementation of the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act 2021 along with the Criminal Amendment Act 2021 through a multi-faceted approach of public awareness campaigns, trainings and capacity-building of key stakeholders.

AGHS Legal Aid Cell’s Anti-Rape Training Workshops for judges, prosecutors, police officials and independent support providers focus on ensuring the implementation of existing sexual assault legislation and the furtherance of progressive protection of survivors of sexual violence.

The workshops conducted across Pakistan inculcate gender-responsive practices and sensitization in the criminal justice system and improve the state’s response to crimes of sexual violence. The workshops include extremely intensive and academically sound training modules conducted by experts from relevant sections of the criminal justice system for instance the police surgeons who administer medico-legal examinations.

Through its expertise and specialized focus, AGHS Legal Aid Cell has spearheaded timely intervention for increased awareness of laws, gender sensitization, and advocacy for reforms in Punjab and on a wider scale nationally. The Executive Director of AGHS, Ms Nida Aly, is part of the Federal Committee for the Implementation of the Anti-Rape Act 2021 and contributes to the national resolve for combating sexual violence.
