LAHORE: Five suspected robbers allegedly involved in raping two sisters during a house robbery a month ago, were killed in a `shootout` with the Sheikhupura police.
Police said the suspects were being escorted to point out their hideouts near the Sargodha bypass when their accomplices, hiding in a nearby house, arrived at the scene.
The robbers opened fire at the police in an attempt to free their accomplices. During the exchange of fire, five suspects were killed `in firing by their own accomplices.
The attackers managed to escape the scene, leaving behind the dead.
The police said the robbers were involved in numerous robberies and had a history of subjecting women to rape.
Police said the suspects had allegedly looted valuables from a house and raped two sisters. The police have recovered looted valuables, weapons, and cash from them.
The police are currently investigating the incident and making efforts to arrest the fleeing robbers. Staff Reporter
