BAHAWALNAGAR: A mother of four threw acid on a man allegedly for cutting off relationship with her at Haroonabad on Tuesday.
The first information report (FIR) registered with the Saddar police said Muhammad Aslam, a resident of Chak 58/4-R, a labourer, had relations with a 31-year-old woman in the same area, however, he broke up with her some time ago.
The man informed the woman`s husband also about the matter when she refused to end the relationship and continued contacting him.
On Tuesday, when Aslam was asleep outside his house, the woman reached there, threw acid on his body and fled. Aslam was rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Haroonabad where he was referred to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) burn unit because of a critical condition.
Saddar SHO Ghulam Shabbir told Dawn the acid burnt the victim`s face and body. He said the police arrested the woman soon after the incident and she had confessed to committing the crime. Police also recovered a bottle of sulfuric acid from her house, which was used in the acid attack incident.
Mr Shabbir said the acid was used to burn cotton seed and was available at almost every farmer`s house in the village.
According to the SHO, the woman was a mother of four and depending on the financial help from Aslam. After the breakup, Aslam stopped giving her money, due to which the woman and her children were suffering. More than the break-up, the woman was concerned about poverty and wanted Aslam to continue helping her but when he refused, she took the extreme measure, the SHO added
