Couple shot dead over `honour`

KARACHI: A couple was shot dead in a suspected `honour` killing case in Korangi on Thursday morning, accordingto police.

They added that armed men riding a motorbike arrived at a house in Mehran Town. They shot at Misal Khan, 45, and his wife Kiran, 35, and fled.

The wounded victims were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.

Korangi Industrial Area police SHO Obaidullah Khan said the double murder appeared to be an outcome of so-called `honour`.

He said the deceased, Misal Khan, married in his native town Charsadda in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. But later on, he eloped with a sister of his wife, Kiran and they got married. The couple escaped to Karachi.

The police believed that the deceased woman`s relatives were involved in the incident.

The SHO said there were four children as well living with the couple, but it remained unclear who their mother was. They had gone to the school when the killings took place. The police have handed over the children to neighbours for safe custody since they have no relatives here in the city.

The police are waiting for relatives to arrive from KPK to lodge an FIR.
