BAHAWALPUR: A couple and their minor son were shot dead and their minor daughter was injured on Saturday night by eight armed attackers allegedly over an old enmity at Azeemwala Toba near Derwar Fort, a remote area of Cholistan falling in Bahawalpur district.
According to Rescue 1122 officials of Ahmedpur East tehsil and Bahawalpur district police,eight armed suspects, including five nominated ones Abbas, Sharif, Kaloo, Shah Nawaz and Maulvi Hayatullah of Imrani tribe, residents of Katcha Rojhan, Rajanpur, along withtheir three unidentified accomplices, allegedly attacked the house of Mul(htiar in the limits of Fort Derawar police station.
The suspects opened indiscriminate fire on the family, killing Mukhtiar (35), his wife Rubeena Mai (33) and their sixyear-old son, Qadeer, on the spot.
Mukhtiar`s minor daughter Kanjoon Mai (7) was injured in the firing.
The police said the motive behind the killings was an old enmity.
The district police officer (DPO) ordered Yzman DSP to arrest the suspects, who along with a heavy police contingent, reached the spot, where the crime unit and a police forensic teams were already present to collect the evidence.
The police said that the bodies were moved to the Yazman Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for the postmortem examination, while the injured girl was also shifted there for her treatment.
The police said a triple murder case had been registered against the nomi-nated and unidentified suspects, while teams were dispatched to different areasforthe suspects`arrest.
POs KILLED: Police claimed that two proclaimed offenders (POs), who were in custody, were allegedly killed in the firing by their own accomplices in a bid to free them in Vehari and Khanewal districts.
As per Vehari police, a PO Irfan Sahoo, who had opened fire on a police party during a raid on his hideout on Sept 5, 2023, was under arrest. As a police party was taking Sahoo to Luddan area for recovery in different cases, his four accomplices allegedly opened indiscriminate fire on the policemen to free the PO.
The police retaliated the fire, ensuing a crossfire with the criminals, the police claimed.
They said that during the exchange of fire, Saho o was hit by bullets fired by his own accomplices and died on the spot.
Meanwhile, the attackers managed to flee the scene in the darkness.The district police have formed teams to arrest the fleeing attackers.
The police claimed Sahoo was wanted in two criminal cases and nominated in 65 other cases of heinous crimes, including dacoities and murders.
In another incident, Jahania police claimed that a murder accused, Arshad Arain, who was in custody, was allegedly killed by his own accomplices during an encounter.
According to police, Arshad was being taken by a police party to a place for recovery of the murder weapon, when his accomplices opened fire on policemen to free the suspect.
However, during the crossfire, Arshad was killed in the firing by his own accomplices, the police claimed. His body was shifted to Khanewal DHQ hospital for the postmortem examination.
Police claimed that the deceased had killed one Ibrahim for offering resistance during a robbery some three months ago and was allegedly involved in 27 cases of heinous crimes.
