Man beaten was accused of raping a teenage hostess on a bus near Vehari

Lawyers thrashed a man accused of raping a bus hostess, after the extension of his remand by a civil court on Thursday. As he exited the courthouse after his hearing Sheraz Ali was ambushed by a group of lawyers who started beating him.
Besides arresting Sheraz, Denawal Police also detained the bus driver, Asif, over allegedly helping the accused sexually assault the hostess earlier this week at General Bus Stand Vehari. Police requested 10 days of extended remand from the court, though only two more days were granted.
The victim also appeared before the court and expressed her dissatisfaction over the police investigation.
Sheraz allegedly raped the 18-year-old hostess in the moving bus, which was travelling from Karachi to Lahore, at gunpoint. The victim was shifted to DHQ Hospital Vehari in critical condition, while police registered a case and arrested the accused. Social organizations and women staged a protest against the incident.
The victim said that when the bus reached Melsi, all passengers disembarked and the empty bus left for Vehari. Sheraz then allegedly called her to the back seat and raped her at gun-point. She informed rescue 15 about the incident after reaching Vehari.
When news of the tragic incident broke, a large number of citizens, induding women, demonstrated outside the hospital to express solidarity with the victim. The protesters demanded that IG Punjab, RPO Multan and the newly-appointed DPO Isa Khan take immediate notice of the incident. APP
